I'm hoping I've hit upon a solution for van door mirrors. Maybe too industrial for the delicate saloon owner but could benefit the van man. As shown they are made from cut down tie rods complete with lower arm bolt. The top hole in the bolt is opened out to 3/8 as is the tie rod hole. The bottom hole is left at 5/16 and tapped 3/8 bsf. There is a nut on the end to lock. The idea being to keep the mirror rigid but with impact force allow the arm to fold fore and aft. Finished in a colour of your choice, and bolted through the quarter light panel.
Looks like an excellent and practical idea. Any chance of a picture of the whole item, to go with this close up shot you've posted?
Best wishes,
Mike.
