What revenue weight?
As some of you may know, I have a slight paperwork problem with my project. Someone somewhere at DVLA has made a mistake at some point (probably when all the tax classes got altered in 1995, which was about when it was last on the road), and it's ended up registered as a "private HGV" with a revenue weight of 3501kg.
I've spoken at length to the morons at DLVA about this, they are quite agreed that the revenue weight is wrong, but seem to want me to come up with some sort of evidence for a lower one (i.e. a handbook page or similar).
What are other people's cars listed as? (if anything - at least one of my fleet doesn't have a revenue weight!) Is there some sort of sensible figure given in any of the period literature?
I'd like to just get DVLA to list it as 3499kg (which is what several of my Land-Rovers are down as), but they don't seem even slightly keen on that idea.
Any suggestions?

Re: What revenue weight?
If this is a Minor (of any description) it should be listed as 'Historic Vehicle' with free Road Tax.

Re: What revenue weight?
Yes, no dispute about that.
The problem is that in order to get the tax class changed, I need a revenue weight of less than 3500kg. Beyond that, I don't really care (hence why I would happily settle for 3499kg), but DVLA seem to care a great deal.
Thus it is, I'm trying to find out what revenue weight the log book should say on it, and why.
(And yes, I could possibly get it taxed as a historic vehicle with an HGV weight classification, but then I couldn't legally drive it, as I've only a licence for vehicles up to 3500kg).
Incidentally, I've realized, I should have said above - this is a 1970 2 door 1000, originally fitted with a 1098cc engine.

Re: What revenue weight?
Sorry - I'm not understanding 'Revenue Weight'. It's a car - so surely it's just a simple Historic Vehicle - with 4 seats? Vans were sold as ' 6 cwt' and then later as '8 cwt' - but I can't see how that would apply or help for a saloon car....

Re: What revenue weight?
Do cars not normally have revenue weights recorded then?
All my old Landrovers have one (although I suppose they are technically light commercials), although my a40 doesn't.
Should it have any sort of weight recorded on logbook?

Re: What revenue weight?
No! They usually just want to know the number of seats! I'm guessing they haven't understood this is a CAR. But - is the old log book the correct one for the vehicle? Do the chassis and engine numbers all match up?

Re: What revenue weight?
Ask DVLA for the source of information that it is a private HGV & the weight they allege . Play their game .

like it they don't like YOU when you hassle them with questions and they have got to start and think about what they are doing for a change instead of rubber stamping everythingcrossword wrote:Ask DVLA for the source of information that it is a private HGV & the weight they allege . If you're a club member contact the technical tips guy Rob Thommasson as he is in frequent contact with the DVLA and should hopefully be able to sort the problem out for you.

Re: What revenue weight?
I'm pretty sure the logbook is correct for the car - everything seems to match up, the body type is given as "saloon" (am I the owner of the worlds only saloon HGV?), the only bits that don't seem to make sense are the revenue weight and tax class.
I'm not currently a club member, I've paid out a small fortune on car club memberships over the years... (don't take that the wrong way, it's just if I was a member of every club for every vehicle I own, I'd easily breaking the £100 a year mark). In theory (at least) it should be possible to get DVLA to sort this out. The problem is, one has to do it by post with a covering letter, which is why (having wasted several hours on the phone with them) I'm still trying to work out what the covering letter needs to say to ensure they make the correct changes.
If needs be, I'm quite capable of kicking up a fuss (e.g. living in a marginal constituency, and with there being an election next year, I can always mither my MP about it with some hope of success!).

Re: What revenue weight?
I'm not sure, but do the MOT stations have the ability to alter the DVLA records via the computor, the new system weighs the car on the rollers

Re: What revenue weight?
No intention to send original copies of anything other than the current v5 {and I'll photocopy that before it goes in case they lose it).
Re: What revenue weight?
Don't 'send' anything - GO ALONG to your local office and deal face to face...... But I ask again - do your documents match up with the numbers on your car - I don't understand why they think it is a Commercial vehicle - unless the Reg number is for a Commercial ??

Re: What revenue weight?
Had the same on my 61 landrover, I managed to find a copy on the internet of the page from an original hand book stating the maximum allowable weight (GVM), sent this off and they changed it no problem.

Re: What revenue weight?
DVLA not seeing callers? Really?
That will be news to my colleague who drove to Swansea about 3 weeks ago to sort out registering an imported Mazda. Having spoken at length to a very helpful lady - who phoned upstairs to check what documents were needed, he duly paid his fees and thought that was the end of it - until a letter arrived last week telling him a load of documentation was needed - documents that he had taken up there and shown them.
So it is still there - but it probably isn't worth the trip especially if its along drive. Swansea was our "local" office after the last cull of facilities, when we lost the real local office that was actually in the county where we live, but given the current "government on the cheap" ideal, service to the public has taken a back seat. The idea seems to be that closing all the local offices will encourage more online contact, but the caller office still operates at DVLA HQ

The voices in my head may not be real.... But they have some damn good ideas.

Re: What revenue weight?
Kevin S - that sounds like what they told me.
Problem is, I've no idea what that number is for a minor, much less where to find it documented in a manner DVLA would accept... Hence this thread! (Not that it's yielded any terribly useful results so far).
