So an update, probably more for informations sake than anything else. A good pair of 488 lamps came up for sale, so I grabbed them. The 2 inch hole in the guard, althogh covered by the lamps is to big for them to be secured in the way they are designed to be. So the correct lamps for this particular MM would have been the 482 units. I'm going to fab a couple of adapters and use the 488's. Should a couple of complete units materialise when I have the cash I may jump on them but I'm not to worried right now.

The thing I do find interesting is that all these changes to the rear lamps would have required three types of rear guard to be produced. The first with a 2 inch hole, the second with a 1 5/8 inch hole and the third with one 2 inch and two 5/16 inch holes.

I do like this bit of a restoration!

Going by the information he has gathered it took approx 9 months for the CKD cars to arrive, be assembled and reach the forcourt. Making my car roughly March 49. So, if the L488 lamp requires a 1 5/8 in hole and my one original wing has a 2 in hole it seems I need some L482 lamps (i realise one would be a reflector but safety and all that). That sucks as I guess they are like rocking horse poo!
I think you are more likely to find them in NZ than here in the UK although we do have one new one in the club stocks and I think Carlo Pegaro has some as well but they are a lot of money. Once again David Greenslade may be able to suggest where in nZ or Oz you might get some from. You could try Horopito scrapyard in NI, dont think there were any on the cars in the yard last time I visited but he may have lamps or even just lenses in one of his big sheds. If there are and you can get them for a few dollars then buy what he has and we will buy off you.

Thanks Bryan. I will keep my eyes open. David was a bit of a loss but I will contact the yard at Horopito when I have more cash in the morrie fund. For now I have started the tear down in order for sort the inevitable rot.
