powerline compressor

Post by samuria »

this has worked well for me but i want a gravity fed gun to spray
the cars roof.
mine would spluter when tilted as its a suction gun.
so would a gravity gun work with this.

Has it got a tank?Looks like just a motor and pump from the pic.If so I would firstly replace it with something man enough for the job. Both types of gun can be used on the roof, obviously you need to take care you don't scrape the pot of a suction gun on the roof but its not difficult.I was brought up on suction fed and use them for everything.A small gravity gun is handy for getting in places with restricted space,i.e engine bay if engines in etc.

Yeah you need a better comp.2hp,50 litre tank preferably belt drive(theyre quieter as they run slower and dont wear out as quickly)minimum spec.To do it properly and also be able to run airtools without it running out of puff go for a 3hp,100-200 litre tank. The important thing youre after is the free air delivery(FAD) when you look at a replacement. You also need a water filter/trap and regulator, last thing you need in your air is water and all comps have it.If you get a gun that takes a fair bit less air than the comp supplies you're sorted. You can pick up something suitable off Ebay for £100 or less.If you have limited space consider placing it in a nearby shed/outhouse with a longer airline,it'll be better anyway as it won't be sucking in air from where you're working. You'll be glad you did!

The compressor is perfectly ok - just add a tank! Calor gas tanks are readily available and are tested to very high standards... of course you MUST incorporate a relief valve and a gauge - and make sure the valve lifts at 100 psi - NO higher... the bigger the tank = the better. Sure - it will take a while to fill up - but then will give plenty of air to spray a panel - even a roof. For many years I used a refrig compressor - and a large Calor tank. It took 2 hours to fill the tank - but it held plenty of air to spray two panels (or one roof) - which was all I wanted before retiring to fresh air! And yes - been there with a suction gun that dripped on the roof just as I was finishing it off nicely...........

That was years ago - but it worked. Then along came Aldi with an excellent compressor and tank for not much money.
