Radio

Post by Cyril »

Hi
I know there is a thread on here about installing a radio but I found it was just centred around if the car was positive or neg earth and didn't really answer my query.
To begin with my car is Neg Earth.
I only want the radio operating when the ignition switch is on
The manufacturer has told me that in order for the radio to work the following three wires must be connected.
1.Constant 12v yellow wire
2. Ignition/ACC red wire
3. Ground
Can anyone advise where these three above wires attach in the Morris as I am reading conflicting advice.
Many Thanks

Radio Black to Black on your Morris which is terminal E on the control box or anywhere on the body.
Radio Red and Yellow connect together and wire to A2 (Purple) on the fuse holder.
Radio will then be fuse protected and will only operate with the Ignition on.
Don't forget to separately isolate the Radio Blue and the Blue/White you don't want them to be touching anything :-?
Should be ready for tea time.

No - the radio will work all the time then.... The yellow to the 'Lilac/purple' but the red must go to the green wire coming from the other IGNITION fuse if you want the radio to go off with Ignition off.

Hi BMC :D
Long time no hear, hope you are well? :D :D :D
So according to my manual
Am I right in thinking that the yellow wire goes to the fuse A1 and A2 (constant 12v +)
and the red wire goes to fuse marked A3 and A4 (ignition on/off)?
I am at Woodvale Rally this weekend so will post some pics.
Regards

If you want the radio to go off with ignition off then A4, both red and yellow.

Otherwise you'll have to retune every time you switch on as your stored stations will be lost.

The radio stores pretuned in its memory(you have to scan for them when you fit the radio). The permanent live feed provides the power to keep those stations in its memory. If you use an ignition controlled fuse for this feed everytime you switch off those stations will be lost and you will have to perform the scan again, and again, and ...............

Well its not a problem.Just wire the yellow to a permanent live, this will keep your stored stations and the red wire to an ignition controlled live.

What I don't understand is why you want it to run WITH the Ignition on? Because you will never be able to hear it above the A series clamour... Your only hope is to run it when the car is stopped - Ignition OFF - then you will be able to hear it......

I currently use my iPhone in the car connected to just a 2 watt stand alone speaker! and I can hear it sufficiently when I drive.
Therefore I am assuming with the pair of 40 watt speakers I just installed then this will be even better :-)
