If you are into railways and not the beautiful game and with all the wartime (WW1 & WW2) remembrances being organised this year it might be worth looking at another famous railway artefact the Cavell Van and remembering all those servicemen and women lost to war.

Just back from a visit to the NYMR bought for me as a Birthday Present. Last night a meal and ride on the Pickering Pullman with the engine being the Sir Nigel Gressley. Superb meal and trip.
Drove up to Pickering in the minor with a overnight stay, spent the day in Whitby and a leisurely drive back to Leeds.
The minor performed faultlessly (unlike our football team)

I'm not a football fan* in general, but did enjoy seeing the first Dutch performance (whilst wondering how much they would have hammered the England side). As for UK football - I've not been inspired in my entire lifetime, but maybe one day will come.

* What puts me off is the thuggery! If I was to punch someone, I'd expect to be arrested & charged. Apparently in a football match, it's ok to punch someone on the pitch whilst watched by millions and recorded in digital video for a lifetime, and the worst you can expect is a red card...

Thank you,at last someone has the same thoughts as me ! It's ok to assault someone within the confines of a football stadium,outside you would be arrested for doing the same. I love football,but hate to see players spit. So called"Role Models "
should be setting an example. Again,spit on the pavement and you can be fined !

Many thanks for the thread guys, back to sanity! I am optimistic that now England no longer features in the "competition" the whole episode might be replaced with something more interesting (I should be so lucky). It appears that eating the competition is the latest fad.
