Ignition light

Post by tomlucke »

Hi
My ignition light has just started to stay on after the ignition is switched off and the keys removed from the barrel (engine not running).
It goes off when the ignition is switched on and the engine is running as per normal.
Any ideas why it is staying on when the car is switched off?

Many thanks

Yes - the Regulator is stuck ON.... You must not leave it like that - disconnect the battery urgently - and then investigate the moving contacts in the regulator. Clean them with fine wet/dry paper - and then reconnect the battery to see if it's cured. If not - new Regulator may be required.

Thanks
I took off the old regulator and replaced it with another from my store of spares.
Same problem.
Haven't checked the first one yet but thought it would be unlikely that both were faulty.
Could it be anything else?

Not really.......when stopped the dynamo (and hence the Ign light) is isolated when the contacts in the Reg open. Has any other work been done - speedo disturbed - wiring disturbed?

You could try adjusting the contacts in the regulator, the only other place where the fault could lie that I can think of would be the ignition switch.

I suppose that's possible ! But the engine would keep running ........ Does anything else work when it's like this - heater fan/wipers etc.......
