filling tecalimet grease gun

Post by little_pete »

OK I have issues every time I fill my old tecalimet grease gun. I put the grease in about half way and try to push the assembly on top of it. As soon as the cork gets into the barrel it just ceases up I can't get the lid on. Am I doing it all wrong, is there something blocked. I managed to fill it once before but made and absolute mess and it took about half an hour. I don't mind greasing the car it's filling the gun that I struggle with. I find the other bigger guns can't reach the drive shaft nipples.

Thanks for any advice.

Forgot to put the link to a similar one (Yes I'm aware it has instructions in the background have tried to follow them, perhaps I need to put less grease in

It is probably like a bicycle pump you have to push the washer in as you insert the plunger, apologies if you are already doing this

Thanks for the drawing, the cork plunger is slightly tapered and can go in easily enough just pressure builds up behind it and I can't force it down and put the lid on. I thought maybe there's old grease clogging it up so cleaned the plunger mechanism with hot water and laundry detergent. Went in fine with satisfying popping and hissing of air. Used the whole lot went to refill and the same problem, could only get it to go on again by cleaning the cork plunger, but should I really have to do that every time?

If it is only the prop-shaft grease nipples that are the problem fit the longer ones from ESM Pt No: DIF155 and ditch the Tecalemit grease gun. Problem solved for £1.80 plus the usual :D

Can this be done without removing the UJ? I can barely get the grease gun in there never mind a spanner.

They are usually not very tight, try a pair of long nosed pliers, a small socket or a spanner on end. Turn the prop shaft until the angle opens up and you can get the tool in-between the u/j knuckles.
