Royal mail van door.

Post by Peter McNaught »

I was wondering what you would pay for a new old stock royal mail van door with the Yale lock hole, and do they ever come up for sale.

Club spares have advertised a standard nos door for about £300 before now, would say that's over the top but may give you an idea of what some folk think they're worth.

Or you could buy a standard van (/ pick up) or a 2 door car door (I think they're the same??) and add a hole for your Yale lock.
Once painted and fitted up who's going to know?
Check out eBay, I certainly wouldn't pay £300 for a door!
Best wishes,
Mike.

2 door/Traveller won't fit as they are larger doors. For a van door replacement you need to look at either a door from a van/pickup or a 4 dr saloon.

Ahhh.... So they're the same size as the four door saloon fronts.
I knew Morris / BMC would be raiding the parts bin from somewhere!!

Did a conversion myself.

But only a transfer from a rotten original to a civvy door - biggest problems
I had were making the new wood block lining up the Yale barrel & NOT
damaging the exterior Yale lock seat.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my message, the reason I have asked is that I have a 1968 van, and recently I recovered from my parents loft a full set of doors I have had in storage, and noticed on inspection that the passenger side front door is a brand new royal mail van, passenger door with in black primer and original parts stickers. It would be a shame to use it on my van, and wondered it selling it would would help towards renovation costs. I have in 21 years of Morris ownership never seen another brand new one advertised, would there be any interest?

Yes POMMReg, never been used, I would consider selling it, would the the Post Office Morris register be interested. I need to raise some funds for my Van refurbishment.

Where did you get this one, does it still have all the mechanism?

Looks to have been used on one with the later double line
lettering.

That's because the photo is too big - try reducing the size first. If you still have problems send me a PM and I'll upload it for you.
