the judders

I just posted this question on the mechanical board but it didnt come up. Assuming I did it wrong...here it is again. Can someone please tell me wether or not itis normal for the steering wheel/column to judder when decelerating from speeds over 50mph??
I have only been driving my traveller for a feew weeks and am not yet fully aware of what is acceptable in the way of judders, squeeks and rattles.

I have the same problem, I am getting my wheels aligned (whatever the spelling) it helped on the Golf

The steering should not judder, no.

It sounds like you need to get your wheels balanced, BUT does it occur at one speed only? Just when decelerating? using the brakes or not?

If it occurs when using the brakes, then you might have a distorted drum.

thanks, if my brain serves me correctly, i think its when i brake. it only happened when i came off the motorway, not when i was slowing down on the motorwayand doesnt happen in "round town" driving so it would seem to be connected to the speed and the brakes...yes. Any idea how much it will cost to put right?

Different problem then, Elisabeth judders at high (relatively) speeds like 60mph

The simplest thing you can do is check the front suspension tie-rods
the rubber bushes could need renewing. If there is too much play
then judder could be introduced under severe braking. Any
MOT station has the brake testing equipment which will tell the
operator if your drums are oval. New drums are available at a
quite reasonable price.

haha yep mine dfid that ttoo! i guess it must be the shock absorbers doing it so itd probs be worth while taking them off bench testing and replacing if necassdary! thats if these judders are reLLY WINDING YOU UP! sorry for th caps, charly

Charly if they are shot you dont need to bench test them as they are normally quite feeble in there action when worn.
