bull motif postage charge

Post by docgibbons »

i just wondered whether all members were aware of bull motif's postage charges, having recently had an experience regarding a replacement radiator. Not completely sure which rad to order, i phone bull motif, discovered which one i needed, and ordered over the phone. On their website, it advertises free UK postage on all orders over £60, but I was charged £6.99. I phoned bull motif, and was told that it only applied to website orders, and not over the phone. I then asked why, having phoned to ascertain the correct part to order, i was not told that going back to the website and ordering the radiator by part number would have saved me the postage, which i personally think should have been the case. The guy i spoke to with the query was fairly dismissive, claiming that it was made clear on the website. Personally, I disagree. So if any member phones to make sure they're getting the right part over £60, be sure and order the part number from the website and not over the phone.

In fairness, I think that it is clear on both the web site and in advertising. It's not only BM that offer the free postage on web orders over a certain amount, it's quite common, and recognises that there is less work for the supplier when you complete all the paperwork yourself. A buyer is free to enquire about any special deals at the time of purchase. If you don't, and are happy at that time to pay the price quoted, then there is no reason why the supplier should tell you anything different. Yes, they could, but it is the buyer who makes the offer.

well, i get your point, even if i don't entirely agree with it. but my main reason for posting was to alert others to something they may have not been totally aware of.

Ah, now I haven't mentioned service, parts quality, or where I buy parts; I simply pointed out that the postage arrangements were not uncommon.

i'm not quibbling with the service, the new part arrived the next day, and when i had a query on the heater hose attachment, they were very helpful over the phone. i just wanted to make sure everyone was aware that ordering over the phone not only invalidates the BM offer of free postage over £60, but also that they won't advise you to use the online method instead. or they didn't in my case. I should probably have worked out that there was going to be a postage charge when i ordered, but VAT is so expensive these days, i mistakenly thought that the final price was merely the part + vat rather than the part+vat+postage.

It's always parts + postage +VAT - even on the postage...... with all mail order companies.
