Boot lock woe

Happ Easter,

I've found the right key for the boot lock, but it just spins about 270 degrees and doesn't actually affect a lock - I can still open the boot lid with the key in either position.

Can it be fixed? I'd quite like to lock the car....

Sounds like you'll need a new key and barrel - an easy job to swap but you will end up with a separate key just for the boot.

I have 4 different worn keys for 4 different worn locks on my Traveller - very frustrating! I believe sets of barrels are available (ESMM or Bull Motif?) which may improve security and sanity.

Try a squirt of WD40 in the lock......but it does look like needing a new lock.

I have three different keys for my car, I'm led to believe it's not that uncommon to have more than one, just another symptom of classic car ownership!
I've never heard of sanity being one though!

Just remove the barrel,put the key in that you want to use to open it,file off the tangs that are still sticking out.That key will then open that lock.

Either everyone missed the point or I over read your question. I read that you can't open the boot lid at all. Can you rotate the handle? If not, you'll have to drive out the lock, and then slide the bar. The cam probably broke off. If the floor is in the boot, there's nothing you'll be able to do from the inside if you could get in there. Even removing the hinge pins probably won't work because the striker plate has a locating hole and movement would be limited.

My bad, I reread the original post and see that he can open the lid, yes remove the cylinder an either the bar is damaged or the cam is broken. To remove the lock the metal can that is swaged on the square drive must be removed so the pin can be driven out.

Thanks all - it's a seperate key anyway, currently, that's not the issue - an unlockable boot is!
