New harness-to-indicator stalk wiring

Post by Garry Beckett »

Hi All, can anyone put me out of my misery on this please?!?! I've fitted a complete new wiring loom to my sons 65 2 door... We are almost there with everything working, except the Horn & indicators (and interior light, but we do not have one at present, so are not too worried about that for now)!!
I fitted a complete new indicator stalk last summer which has worked fine after I connected it by trial & error to the much hacked about previous loom... But now, the combination of wire colours against the new loom & indicator stalk harness colours has got me (lets just say frustrated :) as they do not seem to match any diagrams I can find...Trial & error has also had no luck either, so, can anyone tell me which joins which please... ????

From the harness I have : 1 light green. 1 Green & Brown. 2 Green & white. 2 Green & Red & 1 Purple & Black...........
From the stalk we have: 1 Brown & Black. 1 Green & Yellow. 1 Green & White. 1 Green & purple. 1(Normal Green, not Light Green) & 1 Black....................

Also, lower down the loom towards the bulkhead, nr to where the reds & blues for the headlights exit the casing, I have a thin purple & a thin black connected to nothing at present... And at the other point where all the switch wires etc exit the casing, I have a lonely thin red wire, which has neither a bullet or spade connector on it, and that I can find no home for at all!!! Many thanks in anticipation of your answers... Gazza

Hi, well it was advertised on ebay as Minor spares...and it fitted ok without modifications being made.. Somehow I managed to wire it last year so that it worked, just Shame i didnt photgraph it this time before i disconnected it & discarded the old harness... Its got me a bit stumped at the mo, and do not possess a big socket at the mo the remove the steering wheel, get the cover off the stalk & trace the wires to their contact points!!

And - you don't need a big socket! Tap it with a hammer and chisel or centre punch..... (this will keep the thread running for a few days)... As for the wiring - ring out the connections with your meter - there are very few possible combinations! :)

If you do use a hammer and chisel to undo a but (!) make sure to wear the appropriate health and safety gear.... Unless you know someone with a 33mm socket of course. This forum makes me laugh sometimes :-) ....
Glad to be back!

Hi Mike, no you didnt waste your time mate, thanks for your reply.... Looks like I'll have to get the cover off the indicator stalk now though, so that I can see where the odd coloured wires on the stalk harness conect to & then I can join up as per your guidance.. Many thanks for your answer... Gazza
