Restoration Show NEC . Photo`s.

Post by Morris Mike »

I just wondered if the club were mounting a display at this event.?

Practical Classics Magazine are co hosting the event.

This event is probably the same format as the October Restoration Show at Stoneleigh, now taken over by Live Promotions.

It will be interesting how it pans out.

I do not know how many clubs or individuals are involved in the display area, perhaps someone can enlighten us all.

A lot of restoration spares and parts companies were asked to attend.

I will certainly be attending and giving it my support.

As an exhibitor I got the details the other day of all the clubs, traders and manufacturers of classic car items that are attending the show.

Looks like the Morris Minor Club will be noticed by their absence.

All the other major clubs will be there by the looks of it, with barn finds and project cars..

It would be possible for the Club to attend a show virtually every weekend (albeit not all of them would be large). However, from where would the resources come? Who would book the stand, design the stand, make the stand, arrange for the cars, build the stand in the run-up and break it down afterwards, man the stand for the entire show, give up their spare time, fund the travelling and hotel costs, transport and sell stock, pay for the fittings and electricity, ETC? How would the benefit be quantified? Now, if we had unlimited resources...

This was hall no 1. We were in hall no 2.

A very good show for the first event, we will be back next time with more vehicles.

A lot of barn found cars were featured.
This Italian barn found Topolino was a good example.

We took along our Renault 4CV. It was barn found by us in South West France last Sept.
It caused more interest than when I take along a fully restored example.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

There were vehicles at both ends of the restoration spectrum.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

Looks to have been a good show. We called in briefly on the Sunday afternoon and it seemed a little quiet, but all the expected traders were there and it was good to stock up on tools and consumables. Didn't get round all the show due to limited tolerance of shows by 3 year old twins who decided they wanted to be picked up and carried, by half way round.... :)
MMOC presence could have happened at the show. It need not have been the big 'NEC machine' of the November show but done on a smaller scale by local branches in the same way that the Avon Branch do the Bristol Classic Car show. The big November car show stand did develop out of one branch stand done on a limited budget by enthusaistic members paying thier own way. With some organisation and coordination maybe the many branches in the area could do something for next time....
cheers

Exactly my thoughts, when I mentioned some Morris vehicles would not go amiss.

They do not want Master Class vehicles at this event.

Perhaps six vehicles at the most.....A couple of barn finds, two runners requiring work in progress and a couple of finished vehicles.

This Show is about hands on restoration by ordinary enthusiasts , showing real work carried out by themselves, they do not want vehicles displayed that have been sent to all manner of professionals for restoration work to be carried out.
That is for other types of shows.

And you do not have to go overboard with the display .....less is sometimes more.
