1098 distributor

I have just purchased a reconditioned 1098 distributor for a 1968 traveller, the distributor I have been sent is slightly different to the one fitted. The one fitted has a vacuum advance unit which the flexi pipe just pushes onto it, the one sent has a screw thread which the vacuum pipe must screw onto, is there an adapter I need to buy, or have I been sent the wrong distributor I explained I needed one for a 68 Traveller?

Earlier distributors had a screw thread to attach the vacuum pipe.
Later ones had the push on connector. By 1968 they all had the push on type.

Your options are either:
a. get the vacuum pipe from an older car with the screw on bit,
b. swop over the vacuum advance units between your old distributor and the new one,
c. send the new one back and tell them it is the wrong one.

Why are you replacing the distributor?

I am replacing the distributor because there is a lot of sideways movement of the shaft and also the vacuum advance unit has failed. I thought seeing the bushes in the shaft needed replacing may as well get a complete reconditioned unit.

d. Use a 2" section of the steel pipe (someone on here may be able to help) then push the fitting on to the steel pipe.

A reputable supplier should swap it for the correct type. That's the simplest option.

I tried to get a metal vacuum pipe a while ago, and there were no Minor suppliers able to source one at the time... However, the MG parts place stocked ones fo rthe 1098cc Midget, and that worked fine.
