Bearing Housing for the clutch??
Last night things all went badly wrong. While changing the brake cylinder we found a leak on the brake hose (Lucky I guess). After that was repaired we came to move the car and the clutch hit the floor and stayed there. It turns out that the bearing housing for the clutch at the chassis end has worn through and collapsed the clutch. This probably explains my awful noises in first gear for a week which I had put down to a new gearbox.
The car is now at a friends garage and the new bushes etc should come tomorrow. What Im wondering now is am I likely to have damaged the clutch??
Anyone have experience of this????

whew!! Im just waiting on the parts now. I was going to head out to rowsley to the minor spares place there but they have closed down and the only other option was wigan
I think there has been a problem with it before and somebody bunged it up with a rubber washer and applied a ton of grease, this explains why my gears have gotten worse over this last week. probably just did it before I bought the car so it sounded perfect on the gears..oh well!

There should be an assortment of rubber bushes, or some sort of arrangement like that, around the pedal shaft. I thought my clutch had gone at the end of last year, but it transpired that the pedal shaft needed overhauling ~ which turned out a lot cheaper than a new clutch! Drives like new, now!
Happy Minoring!

Jane,
Yes, now is the trial time!! Like that with every car that you buy. There's always something that rears it's head before long (I have had a few). They catch you out no matter how careful you are!
Have you ever considered the Morris Minor centre in Birmingham?? Junction 2 of the M5. 50 miles from Stoke!

I was working on refitting the clutch linkages recently while doing my restro. I wanted to replace the rubber bush on the chassis end and went to the MM fella here. He said to use nolathane rather than rubber as it lasts much better. Also the small metal bush that goes in the rubber/nolathane bush needs to be lubricated, else they apparently wear in about ¼ the time.

Yes, I ordered nolathane, it was only about 60p more expensive than rubber anyway!
