I'm going to have to break this news to her within the next 4 hours upon her arrival home from Uni for Easter.

I mean, what the **** has changed so dramatically since it was insured last year is what I'd like to know?
Beggars belief. They just move the goal posts as they feel fit.

Anyone any suggestions who MIGHT be able to help me with this now massive predicament, or failing that, a good place to advertise it for sale?

What are the chances of renting a garage locally ? Any friendly. elderly neighbours with an empty garage could help you out for a small supplement to their state pension ?

Postcodes get categorised/recategorised by insurers dependent on a number of factors. If a particular postcode has experienced a higher than usual level of crime/claims in a given period the risk factor for that area may be reviewed and, as such, additional security such as garaging the vehicle may be required,

I'm more than happy to have a look at your daughters case personally. If you can PM me the full name of the policyholder and the full postcode i'll review it when i'm back in the office in Monday. If you can include a contact number i'll let you know the outcome. If you can provide details of any additonal vehicle security arrangements, such a disklok or similar that you have, or would be willing to add then this additional information would be useful when I speak to the insurer.

They know my daughter and I are members though, but they just were NOT interested...at all.
Absolutely livid.

Tried explaining that it's hidden away and pad locked behind a very stout high hard wood back gate, with usually up to three cars in front of said gate, and that IMO it's safer there than it would be in a garage anyway.
Cut no ice though, so stuff 'em.

RH (and I expect all others) ask where the car is kept - garage/drive/on the street. I doubt they will refuse to insure if 'on the road' - but it may affect the premium. Does the car have a 'secret switch' - and an obvious deterrent such as a Disclok on the steering wheel. My Trav is 'garaged' - and I did ask them if it would be ok to leave it on the drive if I was going away early (5am) next morning. NO! So what if I am away from home - it won't be garaged then - oh that's ok when you are away....no need for garage then..... Same may apply to your daughter when 'away from home' ?

ADRIAN FLUX TO THE RESCUE!

They were as bemused as me when I explained the situation, and after a very helpful young man did a search for me, he came up with the goods at the same price, albeit TPF&T cover instead of the previous Comp, BUT My daughter will now be earning a NCD which wasn't the case before, and they will also do a refund come September to transfer it onto a 'no usage and off the road cover' which will not affect the NCD either.
restricted to 1500 miles, but it was only driven 800 last year anyway.
Excess also reduced down to £150 now too.

All in all, reason won the day.

Past its MOT this morning too, so all in all, after a very dodgy start, all is now well and Missy has driven off to the Zoo for her induction course!
I'd have been as heartbroken as her if we'd had to sell it, as it really is a fine old beast and part of the family now.

Oh, and a footnote.
They weren't insistent and forcing upon us being a member of the MMOC either.

Well - I would look around - that TPFT may come back to bite you! I don't understand the reasoning - the main 'risk' when not garaged is surely THEFT - and that risk is still being accepted?? Amazing.... Have you tried RH for a quote? Most folks seem to be well satisfied with their service...

I appreciate you're not happy but it's a shame you didn't consider this reply you had from Dave@FJ before jumping to conclusions and changing the policy. He obviously wanted to review your problem himself when he's in his office. You might not have needed to change the policy at all, once all the facts had been considered.

What is a shame is that Dave so often has to jump in to help members due to incompetent and inconsistent staff, who don't in many cases know their product, and are unwilling to help. This is a generalisation, but was the case for me and for many others. The fact that the 'club' insurance product (a key benefit of classic car club membership) was, for me, rubbish, combined with the fact that the club doesn't seem worried about that fact, led me to let my membership expire last month after 17 years.

Anyway, this HAD to be sorted yesterday morning, as I hadn't realised up until then that daughter was going to need the car yesterday afternoon.

As has already been said though, shame a bit more flexibility and reason isn't used in these matters, on a case to case and history of client basis.
I was actually completely staggered when I was told I couldn't be insured.

I'm a bit confused In January you posted to say that you had received the renewal quote from Towergate and that as it had increased you had tried Adrian Flux but they were more expensive than Towergate. You said that you would be seeking quotes elsewhere in your annual "fight to the very last penny" to find cheaper insurance. Sounds like the original Towergate policy had already lapsed some time ago if you didn't renew it - have you not been able to find suitable alternative cover since January?

RH have been brilliant as far as I am concerned. Replaced a £71 Minor insurance with a V8 Corvette, and it only cost me an extra £100!

Sorry, yes. car locked away behind padlocked gates in the back garden. Insurance was due in Feb but didn't bother as it wasn't going to be used until now.
Original renewal quote over 30 days old, so null and void.
Had to be treated as a new client

AF were dearer but irrelevant now as FJ wouldn't insure us anyway!

Anyway, I'm pleased now as she's going to be earning a NCB on this slightly dearer policy, so in the long run it'll hopefully pay to have done the swap.

Keep asking but no one's telling.

No good ringing them anyway if they don't insure under 21-25 yr olds.

I'll certainly be trying them for my mk1 Fiesta when the renewal is up in July though, but I REALLY could do with actually knowing WHO THEY ARE...PLEASE!!
