front wheel bearings

Post by boydogs »

Wheel bearings are going on my 1958 Minor. Bull Motif bearings cost £25 +vat of £5 + p&p. I understand that these are thrust bearings, Would the normal roller bearings be ok. as i don`t intend racing. Would it be dangerous to fit roller bearings, would they just break up or would wheel come off? Comments please.

I've NEVER had any bearing trouble with Minors. The standard bearings are fine for many a mile. They need to be installed correctly.......use the search facility to read many threads on the subject. There are taper roller bearings available too - and while in the car world these are generally considered to be superior - I wouldn't bother unless they are a good make (eg Timken) and going for NO MORE than the std bearings.

Thanks, I will bite the bullet and pay up for the standard type.
