Car Lifts

Has any member had experience of using a CJ Autos Tilting Car Lift. Views on the usefulness of this product would be welcome.

No experience - but it looks extremely flimsy - and where would you put it under a Minor? You should ONLY lift under the rear axle - and under the front chassis legs......

Good point, Roy. I can't think of anywhere under a Minor where you could use it.
Also I wouldn't fancy working under a car with just that lift supporting it.

Thanks for the advice. CJ claim that the width of the unit is adjustable so that it supports the chassis, - clearly it shouldn't be positioned under the sills. The tilting feature enables, for example, access to the front suspension, with the rear wheels on the floor, and vv for the rear end of the car. Maximum height with the car level is 59 cm but like yourselves I wouldn't want to be working underneath it. The company video, viewed on their website shows it being used on a larger car than the Minor. However,on the basis of your comments I wont be pursuing this product as an option. Thank you,

It's very much up to you....we can only say what WE would do..... There was a lad killed a while back when his Minor fell on him.....so take care!

Yes, - at 80 years of age I am averse to taking the sort of risks I might have taken in my teenage period. Interestingly, CJ claim that their products meet both British and European safety standards, not much consolation though if the item collapses on top of you. I will continue to use my tried and trusty axle stands while wishing for a little more headroom. By the way,my previous recent problem with engine crankcase bolts has been resolved following your advice. I was able to inch the engine forward having released the front engine mounts, and with the crane just taking the weight. The engine is now residing on my garage floor prior to further work.
