Washing machine soap powder tray

Post by M25VAN »

Any ideas how to effectively clean the crusty gunge that collects over time in a washing machine soap tray?
I've scoured ( ) the internet but can only find info that relates to a service wash to clean the internals out. I can remove the tray and wanted to know if there was some sort of solution I could dunk it in to disolve the crud. I'm fed up with cleaning it with tiddley bottle brushes!

Don't use the tray in future, put the stuff in an open container and straight in the machine.

Yes, I think that is part of the problem. Powder and conditioner is not always washed fully out of the tray.

I think this one (it's not mine) is not cleaned regularly and residue turns to black slime and crusty bits over time. There are a miriad of tight bends, small tubes and corners on this flippin' thing. :(
Then I get a "can you just clean this for me, it looks a bit dirty?"

Just to close this one off, white vinegar did the trick, thanks irmscher :)
Didn't have any baking soda so just soaked in vinegar. Biological gunge came off straight away :) . Crusty stuff turned from hard to soft and chalk like so could be scraped off :) :) . Brilliant.

Bum, I'll spray some vinegar in there. At least the gunge came off easily.

Run at least one cycle without any powder afterwards or there will be trouble!

Ah, good point. I'll make sure a service wash is done although it would probably have been my clothes that caught the first wash. :)
