Petrol pump seals

Could someone tell me what type of pump this Is please? It's leaking from the inlet and outlets. It was just a little but since I popped the tops off to check the filters etc the seals seem to have stretched and won't seal again. Petrol leaks badly now! If anyone knows where to get the seals it would be useful.

Also it was hanging off one bolt before and putting a second bolt in puts it in the vertices position. Most pumps I have seen are horizontal. Does it matter?[frame][/frame]

Looks like someone has fitted an old Mini fuel pump to the car, an SU AUF 214 model. ( It should have an SU AUA 66 fitted )

Spare parts from http://www.sucarb.co.uk( Burlens ).Search for " AUF214 " and you will find an exploded diagram, with all the parts numbered, including the washers.

With the old washers replaced and the pump securely fixed, it should solve your leaks for now and get you back on the road.

Current unleaded petrol likes "eating" old washers, petrol pipe rubber and fuel pump diaphragms ( something to do with it's chemical make up, the experts on the Forum know chapter and verse ).The pump will succumb eventually to old age, at which time you can decide whether to " completely refurbish what you've got " or replace with the "correct " fuel pump for a Morris Minor.

As above - it's the wrong type of pump for a Minor.... The Mini pump is designed to work with flooded suction - that pump will not work well mounted high on the bulkhead - it is not designed to 'suck' petrol up from a low mounted petrol tank - as in the Minor. Ok I think I will get the seals for now and keep an eye out for a good used minor one at a lower price. It's the same pump that's been on the car for years and has worked well enough until it started leaking! Still not sure about the mount position perhaps I should lower it anyway.

Just seen your post, if you still need a pump, we (Dorset Branch) do reconditioned ones for £50 plus postage (exchange, but not too worried about getting one back immediately) Or you could get one of the same pumps from Bryan Gostling in club spares.

Thanks for the info I will bear it in mind. I got three seals from mini spares in the end and fitted them today. I remounted the pump on its side and more securely and the problem is solved. If I have any further trouble with it I will get the replacement.

Well done ! To be honest -I have never fathomed out what the difference is in the pumps. The basic pump body/diaphragm/points etc are all the same - so it can only really be in the valving in the end fittings. Glad to hear yours works well on a Minor - that gives me hope for the spare 'Mini' ones I have in a box, somewhere!
