I know all that only too well Phil....... What with Bargain Hunt and Homes Under the Hammer to be watched... and much track to be repaired at my hobby Steam railway at Bo'ness.... Unfortunately my garage is too tightly packed to allow me to work on either of my cars inside - so it needs to be decent weather - and work outdoors.......[frame]Image[/frame]

Do not watch much telly but am an avid reader especially regarding railway books 8)
Been there done that including inspecting and maintaining railway track. I have been a member of the Permanent Way Institute for many years. Just before I retired I did the Rail Managers Track Inspection Course at Derby which included going out on the main line with line speeds of up to 100mph. Not for the faint hearted when the train thunders past and you are in the cess.
What is the machine with the HIAB; is it a rail mounted Wickham trolley?

Hi there, I was outside for around 3 hours yesterday adjusting points and setting everything up. Just wouldn't run right so I took the airfilter off to check the piston. It was not lifting on throttle. Turned out that the airfilter housing was pushing onto the dashpot and trapping the piston inside. So I just doubled the gasket to get a little clearance and presto it was fine. Iv optimised timing and set the ratio on the carb. It's running quite nice now and I can feel noticeable improvements with the manifold especially at higher revs. I blanked the hole with a spare sump plug I had found at a garage until the actual bolt comes from minisport. Thanks for all the help once again.

Well done ! Chances of finding a sump plug with the correct thread......about 1 million to 1 I suspect!
Phil - you should be getting involved with a preserved railway if you have all these track skills. The Hiab is on a Salmon wagon - very useful - it can roll along the top of the wagon and is used a LOT to handle the heavy bits for us.... http://www.ltsv.com/downloads/w_profile_044.pdf
