internal door handle working, but outside handle not..

Post by muhnkee_2 »

Hey wise folks,
As usual thanks to everyone who is helping me with my challenges!
Todays challenge is the drivers door handle. From the inside it works perfectly, locking and opening smoothly, but from the outside the handle doesn't open the full way, it stops solid after only a short amount of leverage.
I have taken the door card off and tried to see what is "catching" from the outside.
Could it be the door locking mechanism that's causing the issue?
Any top tips greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Greg

my first thoughts were is it locked with the key but i dont think that restricts the travel on the handle but i would try the key in all positions first then check inside to see if anything is jamming the travel on the handle

Hey BigJim,
That makes sense, have only recently got the car, i have only tried to lock it once, and that's about the time the door started playing up.
I have tried to unlock it, but its not working - i might need to take a more patient approach and keep wiggling it till something happens!
Thanks very much for your help. I will let you know how i get on.
Cheers,
Greg

Fortnight ago I travelled 50 miles to pick up a set of Ka leather seats for the mog. Got to the industrial estate postcode he gave me.No sign of him.Phoned him and he said the had given me his works postcode by mistake instead of his home one(which is where he had the seats) but no worries he would be there in 10 mins. After 20 I called him again and he said he was stuck in a line of tractor created traffic but was almost there.I asked him what he was driving so I could clock him driving in.He said--------- A CAR.I didnt bother him again and just waited.Seats were ok though.

I had something similar after discovering that one of the lock fixing screws was loose . When I tightened it , the handle now had restricted movement . Turned out that the screws are of different lengths , a long screw in the wrong hole caused the problem you describe . I would remove one at a time temporarily & see if operation returns to normal with one removed . Hope this helps
