wiper motor advice

Post by mrb »

Hi
Can anyone advise me on this problem - 1968 saloon - wiper work ok - but when switched off - they park up almost upright - which is very annoying ! can get out and just push them back into park position

Read the Haynes manual - stripped off the top cover - but the set up on mine s different - manual shows a reset on the contact - but mine has a contact in the centre of the wiper drive housing and just a brass circular contact base plate - tried turning this around but to no avail ! perhaps they are not adjustable ?

Can anyone help ? Thanks in anticipation Dave

If you can 'push them back etc' - then the arms must be stripped on the splines of the wheelboxes...... If you are lucky - you may get away with new arms....or you may need new wheelboxes AND arms..... To test - if you take both arms off - and run the wipers - do the wheelboxes appear to 'park' ok? And is that park position adjustable by rotating the lid of the motor gearbox?

Thanks

Splines ok and wipers - if l slacken the lid of the wiper drive cable housing and spin the circular contact plate = it does'nt
appear to make a difference !

Haynes manual explains it that there is a limiter contact switch which can be moved to rectify problem - but as l say it seems to be a different set up on mine ?

Wipers work ok - just park up half way across the screen - till you can get out and just push them back into park position - have looked at cable and drive wheel - but cant see how or if they can be adjusted

Thanks for feed back

It IS adjusted by turning that lid. Take the arms off - run and park the wipers - refit the arms in the park position. Do they work ok now? NEVER trust a Haynes...... Google for Morris Minor Workshop Manual - there are free downloads out there!
