Message Board Symbols
I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to computer stuff and thus, I have not been able to figure out what the symbols mean on the message board. For example, there are circles with what appears to be the African continent on it. Sometimes they are orange and sometimes they are blue. Some times they are pulsing and sometimes they are not. There are triangles within within circles which may be orange or may be blue. Occasionally I see an arrow within a circle which always points to the right. Also, is there any way for me to tell which posts I have already read? I now scroll up and down looking for the current date AND looking for the time of day after I think I last looked.
Any education will be much appreciated.

Re: Message Board Symbols
I think they are meant to be mini globe symbols. When they're orange (and you're logged in) it means you haven't read them, when they're blue it means you have, and when they have a little asterisk in them it means it's a post you have previously commented on. Easy stuff!
It's the same on all phpBB based forums, although the colours vary depending on the colour scheme of that particular website.
Hope that helps.

Re: Message Board Symbols
I have also had problems with the symbols and requested a guide to be included in the new website.
One I do know is the link to the first post not read on a topic. this is the orange square with an arrow in corner just to the left of the title, it you click on that it takes you were you last read that topic

Re: Message Board Symbols
^^ Scrap the last part of my previous comment. It seems this forum doesn't have the asterisk notation to show when you have posted on a topic.
Andy is right about the little arrow by the last poster's name taking you to the last comment.

Re: Message Board Symbols
Thanks for the replies. What does pulsating and non-pulsating mean?

Re: Message Board Symbols
It would appear to signify that the topic has more than one page of posts, but could be wrong.Larryb wrote:Thanks for the replies. What does pulsating and non-pulsating mean?

I dunno...there are several topics with multiple pages which are not pulsating.

Re: Message Board Symbols
The pulsating symbols refer to unread posts. As soon as you view the post the symbol will cease pulsating

Re: Message Board Symbols
I dunno here as well. Both the 'Spotted Today" topic and another were pulsating. I went to both and made sure I looked at each post. went back to the main page and they were still pulsating.ASL642 wrote:The pulsating symbols refer to unread posts. Re: Message Board Symbols
What I like about the MMOC is that somebody will ask questions I didn't want to ask myself in case the answer is obvious. Now I WILL ask. It is clear what a Newbie is, but how do you progress to Minor Friendly, etc?

Re: Message Board Symbols
I think it changes the more post you add to the message board, but dont know the levels that cause the change

The 'rankings' by number of posts are as follows:
Minor Friendly 10
Minor Fan 100
Minor Addict 500
Minor Legend 1000
Minor Maniac 5000
No idea when these were set - possibly when the messageboard first started.

I wish I hadn't posted now, as my tongue in cheek remark has been missed!! I was hinting that the rankings are not given to the moderators!
