Bottom water hose - engine block casting

Post by jxmorris »

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me source the casting that screws to the cylinder block of the early MM sidevalve engine (Sept '49, without waterpump) and connects to the bottom water hose? Unfortunately the casting on my engine is badly corroded and is leaking. I've hopefully added a photo so you can see the part I'm referring to.
Thanks!

See block water inlet castings
I have just had a look at the casting on my generator engine and the pipe diameter looks about the same as the small end of the short bottom rad hose, the hose which fits the brass pipe on a water pump engine
If you find a hose to fit the elbow then fit a length of the correct diameter pipe and then a short bottom hose that should work. Sounds complicated but will work until you find an original elbow

Hi,
I suspect this is the piece that Bryan (spares) was advertising very recently. He has found some cast iron versions in the back of a shed!
I bought one 'just in case' because mine was very iffy when I rebuilt the engine but was repaired with an epoxy putty.
