I struggle with XP (but that's probably got more to do with me than with Microsoft).

My two penneth worth. I have been using Windows 8 & 8.1 since it came out with no problems installed on an old Dell PC. I have had Windows 95, XP, Vista & 7 all without problems. My first computer bought 20 years ago is still working fine. My machines have invariably been cheap second hand Dell PC's , rarely costing more than £80.

Thanks all - (and for the general discussion) - she seems to be coping with it - dare I say, she now quite likes it! I could just have swapped the hard drive over from her old PC - but there seems to be no need now.....

What's Rob Roys' wife doing ON a computer, thought Scottish womenfolk were destined to cook Haggis and spin Arran sweaters?!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Yes XP was a great O/S, but all the hackers are sat there waiting for April to arrive to start exploiting all the loopholes when Microsoft stop providing support.
Because of this If I was still using it I would be considering upgrading to at least Windows 7.

The fact that MS support ceases then won't make the slightest difference.Too many people make the mistake of thinking that windows update is the cure-all when in fact it is well known in many cases to cause far more and worse problems than leaving the OS as is.I've used XP SP3 since it became available and NEVER updated it.I used to advise my customers not to do it either.I can't see an old OS like XP being in any way challenging or interesting enough for any self respecting hacker to bother with. The older it gets the safer IMHO.
