Hi, I am hoping to get the bodywork on my 1967 four door smartened up and one of the jobs the guy is doing is cleaning up and re-painting the bumper valances. I am toying with the idea of new bumper blades and over-riders from either Bullmotif or ESM;
however, the restorer thinks they could be a poor fit and would be better off keeping the ones already on the car. Admittedly they are not too bad but I think the new paint job will show them up. Has anyone had problems with the fit on their valances?

Re: Bumper blades
I'd say stick with the originals if they are OK, the quality of modern chrome leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Bumper blades
the metal valences are a very poor fit,but the fibre glass ones are fine,plus no more rust problems,I was shown both when I needed some and the difference was obvious so the glass ones won .

Re: Bumper blades
I have used the fibreglass ones back and front and they are good. New chrome seems to be poor quality from just about all suppliers. From other threads Birmingham Morris Minor Centre would seems to offer the best quality chrome.

Re: Bumper blades
Hello, I think I would go along with using the old blades if still good enough not only for the quality of the old chrome but also for having the right profile to match the valance. I needed a new chrome blade many years ago and when I got it, the curvature didn't match and as I pulled it gently into shape using the chrome bumper bolts, the plating split and that was it ruined. "Proper chrome" apparently has a coating of copper on the steel blade with chrome over the top. Mine had just chrome on steel with no copper and It badly rusted almost immediately. Next time around I used a blade which advertised it had the copper too and that one has been fine for many years. From memory it came from the Birmingham shop but I would ask what standard the chrome has been done to before buying. Good luck. Colin.
