Window mechanism

Post by thecount »

Hi there everyone
Wonder if someone may be able to offer some advice. I've now got my car back and am hopefully getting a roadworthy inspection done on Friday, but I've a bit of a problem with the front passenger door window mechanism / lock mechanism. Basically what is happening is when the window is wound all the way up the main arm (that provides the lift to the window) is pushing the locking mechanism rod (bar from the interior handle to the lock) and they are binding enough to stop the lock from engaging properly, it's a tad worrying when turning a corner and the door opens. Obviously this is only a problem when the window is fully closed, but I need to get it sorted, I'm just not sure what to sort though. Nothing was ever bent on strip down and reassemble so obviously I've got something in the wrong place but not sure what.
Has anyone any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong? I just don't want this to cause a fail on the inspection due to being a safety issue.
Thanks very much for your time
Regards
Gav

The latch operating rod from the interior door handle is quite thin in section and easily gets bent so that it fouls the window or the lifting arm.
Just gently bend it out of the path of the lifting arm and recheckthat the window rises and lowers smoothly. :D

Thanks very much Boomlander, much appreciated.

I took the door panels off both drivers and passengers and it looks like the passenger side mechanism has a bit of a bend that the drivers doesn't, this seems to be the culprit I think. Have managed to get it apart but not out of the door as I will need to strip the window frames and all to get it out. Did manage to lube the whole system and make an adjustment to the lower front window frame where it bolts to the door and this has freed it up somewhat. It seems at present that it is free enough to work properly even though it still fouls a bit. Should get me through the rego inspection though. Just hope everything else passes too!

Thanks again.
