Head Light Eye lashes

Seen some Morris Minors with these fitted and wonder if any of you experienced members can tell me if they are just a accessory or if they were fitted to any particular model Thanks Dave

Definitely an accessory - make sure you buy good quality units as cheap ones have poor finish and sharp edges! [frame][/frame]

Poundland.... and I agree - much less dangerous than the ghastly headlamp peaks ? What madness makes people fit them??? Oh and Poundland also have stick-on 'flames' for down the side of the car - I noticed recently....... Ideal for a Minor Fire engine perhaps ??

Thanks very much for both helpful and comical replies - did of course mean the metal types which l was lead to believe were called eye lashes - don't think they are really dangerous as they are behind the line of the front bumper which of course is a blade !

but now know they are not a official part to a particular model "SO THANKS"

The thing about the steel ones is that they serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever and in the event of an accident they could do an awful lot of damage (especially to my examplar five-year-old). I think "mrb" is kidding himself by suggesting that because they are behind the line of the bumper they are safe. Why do you think that Rolls Royce has lost the Flying Lady and Jaguar has lost the jaguar half-way up the bonnet? Plastic poundland eyebrows won't hurt but I wouldn't like to be hit by one of those steel ones!

I think the rather tenuous idea of the original ones when they appeared in the '50s was that they deflected stray light back down onto the road surface ignoring the fact that thats what the headlamp adjustment and lens does anyway.... I've seen a genuine period pair with a little red lense in the top so you can see from the drivers seat when the light is on (a bit like prewar Lucas wing top mounted sidelights).
I've managed to resist the temptation of these due to the safety aspect and the adverse affect on performance (anyone racing a Herald or Riley 1.5 removes the headlamp peaks to get that extra 1/2 mph or whatever...)

Seems to be a purely American thing (and I hope it stays there I hear you say!). Seen them a few times now on '50s American cars. Not sure what any possible use is other than to give your car a half asleep look! Maybe to warn others that the driver may be half asleep too... I'd guess you'd need to remove them before going out at night

The purpose they serve is decorative - the same as the big bonnet embellisher on later Minors!
Mine are feather light and would simply spring off if struck doing far less damage than that caused by the front of the bonnet!
At least my Series Two bonnet flash lies almost flush with the metal and would not cause any additional injury![frame][/frame]

Most of the tat on my Series 2 is just decorative. The cheese grater grilled cars with body coloured grills can look a bit plain so badge bars, spotlights and even headlamp peaks can lift the appearance. (I've got a set of pillar mounted spotlights stashed ready for when I'm in the mood....).
I've still got a pair of headlamp peaks from a long dead customised pickup, that someone spent ages crafting from scratch. they screw on to the three headlamp retaining screws and have a rolled wired edge round the peak. They're so strong you could almost use them as a step to reach something off a high shelf in the garage!I used them for a while on my first van before a semi rebuild to a more standard look with painted bumper etc... I took the sunvisor off at the same time because it would only do 80, not 85 with it on

My original question was to ascertain whether these eyebrows/peaks were a morris minor original part ? Whilst l take on board the helpful comments on this site l also have to have a sense of humour to accept certain comments made by other members ! Please rest assured that if these items are not original to my make and model then l will not consider fitting them !
So rest assured your young children are safe from me !
