The Brighton Speed trials were first run along the front at Brighton in 1905 and as far as I am aware were the longest running racing (sprint) series in the world. Following a fatal accident in 2012, last years event was cancelled and Brighton and Hove council are meeting tomorrow to consider the future of the event. Every entrant in motor sport accepts the risks and I think it would be a crying shame if the event were to finish. There is a petition on the local Motor Club's site to the council meeting and over 12000 people have signed up to now. Please join me by going to www.savebrightonspeedtrials.com NOW - don't wait or it will be too late!
Thankyou

Re: Brighton Speed Trials petition
I have competed at the Brighton Speed Trials on 3 occasions in my Minor. It is an excellent event and is well supported by both competitors and the viewing public. The 'e' petition should be supported (last day for signing is the 23rd, which is today) and the trials be allowed to continue. I have signed the 'e' petition. Hopefully Brighton and Hove Council will have a rethink.

Many thanks to philthehill and any others who signed the e-petition - fortunately Brighton and Hove Council have agreed to the trials continuing and this year's event will take place on Madeira Drive on 6th September.

Re: Brighton Speed Trials petition
Great news
How about another one to resurrect the London to Brighton run?
I believe it was the local council that killed that off by insisting on a security firm or some such being employed that put the costs through the roof.

Re: Brighton Speed Trials petition
I can't verify this, but I was told last year by a Veteran Car owner that he was not going to do the November veteran Car London-to-Brighton run cos not only was there a considerable entry fee, there was also a £150 fee for parking on Madeira Drive at the end of the run.

Two at a time, pullovers, shirts and ties and no helmets - those were the days!

Re: Brighton Speed Trials petition
I can confirm thats not true, having parked the car and the tender vehicle on Maderia drive at the end of the run last November, and having been involved (either on the car or tender) most years since 2002.TFM150K wrote:I can't verify this, but I was told last year by a Veteran Car owner that he was not going to do the November veteran Car London-to-Brighton run cos not only was there a considerable entry fee, there was also a £150 fee for parking on Madeira Drive at the end of the run.
The entry fee is huge, but other than the cost of petrol and your picnic there are no other costs. You get tea/coffee/cakes at stops along the route, the police stop traffic, there is a free recovery service and the RAC are present along the route to assist, certain roads are closed just for the veterans and there are a lot of police around to direct the traffic and there are marshalls everywhere!
