Don't burst my bubble

Post by viewsonic1 »

As an Englishman first and a Briton second, a thought occurred to me the other day; the Morris Minor, a car I only acquired in July 2013 is the first (true) English car I have owned since passing my test at the tender age of seventeen. Alongside my series 3 BMW (German built) the Minor sits with pride in my garage eager and willing to take on anything thrown its way.
My first car, purchased in the days before I bought a razor, was a Renault ten 1100 conceived by our French cousins across the Channel.
Next on the scene, a Vauxhall Viva, admittedly British built but American owned. Then followed a succession of Fords, all British built but again American owned; however, during my dalliance with Dagenham’s finest, a Hillman imp fell into the mix, British to the core but built by our sisters and brothers in Linwood, Scotland.
For the next sixteen years Volvo was crowned king of our household, from the land that gave us the best ever Eurovision Song Contest entry, (and at that time the prettiest blonde ever to grace the planet), and several pieces of very serviceable furniture that adorn our living room.
And fast forward many years dispensing with kids, a crippling mortgage and having to fight off several admiring women (ok, I made that bit up being happily married for 34 years) I find myself the owner of my first classic car and my first ENGLISH car.
Oh and don’t burst my bubble pointing out Issigonis wasn't born in Britain; he was of British descent and became a Knight of the Realm no less!

Go outside and raise the Cross of Saint George on your flagpole with pride! (And to hell with what the pc council will say!!)
Well done for buying a Moggie too! :D
Best wishes,
Mike.

Because in England, they object to anything that might offend our ethnic minority immigrants, plus they view anyone making a pro England / English statement as vaguely suspect and in need of 're-education'..... (Brainwashing in English...oops!)....

I was told about this in the pub in Gatley the other night, something to do with not wanting to upset people in a building the other side of the main road. I thought it was a wind up.

I am glad to say that Sleaford Town Council organises a St Georges Day do in the Market Place in the middle of town and I usually take at least one car with flags flying and NOBODY has ever said that they are offended.

Anyone is allowed to show their patriotism and fly their flag, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, Cornish etc except the English who have to display the EU thing.

I think you may have dreamed this bit, no legislation that I'm aware of.

Gentle reminder - this isn't the place to discuss politics guys  so don't get too carried away.

But I admire your patriotism :) If I displayed the George cross here (Trawsfynydd) I would probably get lynched
