A door window that won't quite roll up all the way

Evening folks,

One of the many (MANY) problems with my Minor is that the driver's door window won't roll all the way up on its own (that is, using the winder). If I just use the winder, this is what happens:[frame][/frame]
At the front the window is fully up, but at the rear there's a gap of perhaps 3/16". However, there's no obstruction in the way; if I press my palms either side of the window, it'll slide up quite easily. It's just it won't do that on its own. What's wrong with it and how do I fix it?

Will the winder hold it up once you have lifted it?
Take a look at the screws that hold the top corner of the frame together they should be very short but may have been replaced.

Also, have a look at the felt liners in the window frame. They have been known to slip and bunch up, stopping the window from closing. It happened to me on the rear doors of a 4-dr saloon.

the felt liners can slip down and the window hits the screw at the top preventing them closing..

Fin The felt liners need to be adapted to take account of the right angle that holds the window frame together. You need to gently prize the felt liner out at the top only and cut a "U" shape out of it so that the felt sits back around the bracket. If the screws are recessed as they should be the window will now roll all the way up. Hope this helps.

If sorting the felts doesn't cure the problem whip the door card off and look at the regulator. The long metal arm that connects the winding mechanism to the bottom of the glass sometimes distorts - bends - a little, reducing the 'stroke' of the winder.

Easy to remove the mechanism and straighten the arm.
