Series 2 engine bay
Hi guys,
Would anyone please be able to post or send to me directly some detailed engine bay photos of a concours quality Series 2?
I'm restoring a 56 splitty and want the engine bay as original as possible.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Series 2 engine bay
Shouldn't be gloss finish.
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Series 2 engine bay
That's interesting as most pics I've seen show the under bonnet area finished in body colour. Are you saying then that a black car should have a Matt black finish under the bonnet? How about in the boot?
Thanks
Mark
Thanks

Re: Series 2 engine bay
Think Concours and Original are two different things, my 1957 4dr is totally
original and has, just like our LCV's, a non gloss finish under the bonnet.
Probably the same for the boot interior.
Think(?) this also applies to inner wings.
Gloss finish usually covers the stamped in chassis number, which would
defeat the purpose of having it.
I'm no expert, so you're better off contacting someone qualified in this area.

Re: Series 2 engine bay
originally the engine bay would have been body colour but because it didnt matter too much under the bonnet it would have had over spray. concours cars generally are really shiney under the bonnet.

Re: Series 2 engine bay
I can not see it myself, but could it be a refrence to the car being standard rather the deluxe. I think I remember reading somewhere they used to paint a S or D on the bulkhead to define between the two.TFM150K wrote:Ignorance department here! Stenciled I think - poss. white.
When was WHITE first used as a colour option on the Minor?
Stupid question.
white stensil on a white car wouldn't stand out too well!

Re: Series 2 engine bay
When I asked Richard what the S meant, The S indicated the paint type, in this case Synobel.

Re: Series 2 engine bay
Thought Synobels are used on drum kits?
But seriously, when did the "D = De-luxe" stenciled on the nsf bulkhead
cease, and WHEN was it included ON the chassis plate?
Also some doubt when M/A chassis prefixed began - have notes on TWO
pre 666001 Minor's - albeit CKD's - with the later prefix.
