different headlight plugs

Post by CaliMorris »

One headlight has a slightly different plug than the other, and all I have are the bowls, so what other parts do I need for a 1959 Morris Minor 1000 to complete the headlights?
There are sealed headlights, non sealed headlights, and about 5 parts to each headlight. Can I buy headlights in a kit? or do I have to buy all the parts I need separately?

If I have to buy them all separately, could somebody post a list of all the parts that I need?

On another note, all wires coming from both headlights and front turn signals are black, so I don't know which wire goes to the blue and white wire, or which one is the ground, or which one goes to the blue and red wire. :(
Is there a way to tell which is which?[frame]Image[/frame]

Morning, I can't help regarding the list of items needed for your headlights, for info though I converted my 61 saloon to halogen H4 units and just replaced the lighting units themselves with these.

In regards to the wiring here is the diagram I used and I can confirm it was correct.

Hope this helps.

The wiring diagram is at the top of this section - you will need to use a meter to 'ring out' the cables if they have all been changed to black. You'll get one on ebay for ~ £3.

I got two of these, I'll just get/fabricate whichever other parts I need.

also bought a tester so I can figure out which wire is which.
Thanks for the wiring diagram, I've got a pretty nice collection of them going now :D

May be too late for you but these are all you need apart from outer bezels

You said you have the bowls so all you need are the inner bezels (ring that holds the sealbeam in place) and the outer bezel (chrome ring that covers up the ugly inner parts) and possibly the fasteners that hold things in place. You could use sheet metal screws for that if you're not fussy about originality.
