I have tried this before on my old Hillman Minx and it does not work, i put a ton of water through it, but it still ran on and when i pulled the head off it was absolutely caked. There is no subsistute for pulling the head off every one in a while and giving it a clean. For the price of a headgasket and a couple of hours its not worth skipping.bmcecosse wrote:It all comes out of the one refinery........... If you think you have carbon in the chambers (running on..) - then run some water through the system - hot engine revving above idle - put the dizzy vacuum lead in to a jar of water and let the carb suck it in.....

There is a limit to what it can tackle! Years of hard build up can't hope to be shifted by a cup of water.... The best way to clear it is to drive the car really hard and long............

You have a 948 that can go uphill in top gear without slowing down? What strange sorcery is this?!

Perhaps a molehill or a speedbump...
My Mog (which has a stock 948) doesn't make it up the really steep ones without losing twenty miles an hour! Then again, it could probably use a rebuild.
