Car cover for 4 door morris

Hi,
Great forum by the way and thanks to everyone who keeps it up and running, my dads recently bought one of these lovely cars and for his birthday I wanted to get him a car cover that's breathable and suitable for outside use I was wondering if anyone had any experience of which ones are best for the job without costing the earth

My Stormforce car cover was a complete waste of £100..... It disintegrated in the sun..........

I use stormforce covers for two cars all year round- one a 205 and one a mg metro. Also use a stormforce on my van when attending weekend rallys for overnight protection... I have found them superb and secure with underbody staps. I have noticed with my metro one this year it has lightened in colour due to the sun, but is still ok and done this winter so far and we have had a lot of rain and wind and the car remains dry...

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll have a look into that make then and check reviews I think it'll be inside most of the time but just incase Garage space is lost , @ Paul what 205 have you got ?

Hi Gary, yes look into reviews and see how you go, I for one think there well worth the money considering the weather we have! And its just a plain 205 1.4 GR, had a gti but could never get it to ideal correctly and was always lumpy in traffic. This one is a lot smoother and reliable and also useable and cheaper tax... good thing is there on classic insurance now so got all three cars, minor, metro and 205 on one policy and superb value in all respects... 205 is more of a user as the minor and metro are more show cars so don't get used in winter...

Thanks again, I love the 205 gti I've had lots over the years with many differents engines last one was a Miami blue with a MI16v engine with all running gear changed loved that car, currently on the look out for another, as you say I can get classic insurance on it and put away for nice days if weather sorts its self out..... Also looking forward ro getting out in the Morris

Remember to keep it stored away from mice as they love to build nest inside.

My Stormforce cover was fine in the rain - although did blow away once, so I always used extra bungees after that. But in the summer sun - it very quickly went 'brittle' and fell apart. When I questioned them about this, they said I shouldn't have used it in the sun......... be warned....

Thanks for the advice, ill have a look through reviews online but don't want to pay over £100 for something which might not last one of our lovely years weather

Took the cover (Stormforce) off my Traveller this am to check all was well. She's completely dry - no drips. The cover fits like a glove. The 2 underbody straps hold it securely in place even in the recent gales we've had.

Yes I too have removed the cover of the car this am and no water what so ever.. the cover is 100 percent secure with the under body straps.... I would only fit and use the best quality covers as others can damage the car... I would buy and use nothing else. stormforce for me is the best, although Roy has issues I do feel this was a bad batch maybe as I honestly have as ive stated in previous post two in use all year round and there brilliant. id say that last 3 to 4 years which I think is superb as we do have some bad wet and windy winters.... also my friend across the road use a monsoon cover on his car for winter and his is also secure and bone dry underneath although this cover is only for winter use not all year round. Stormforce is the way to go and a good investment

I have a Stormforce cover - seems to be doing fine, and I'm in Manchester which has been VERY wet the last fortnight.

There's still dewy condensation on the roof when I take it off in the mornings but I wouldn't expect to be able to prevent that.

So, you can't use it in the sun ey?
Keep it indoors then?

Sort of defeats the object of the excercise in my book, or am I missing a trick somewhere here?

As mentioned before I think BMC must had had one from a bad bunch. Mine has been on my car outside in all weathers - my house is full south facing. The cover is taken off periodically (as suggested by the manufacturers) to allow the car to "air"

So why did they tell him not to use it when it's sunny?

No idea sorry. The instructions do tell you to frequently remove the cover/air car as I've stated. Anyway in strong sunshine I would expect the car to be uncovered anyway out and about.

I have also used the "stormforce" cover for the last 3 years. I have found it works well but you need to be careful, they can rip if caught on a sharp edge, then they will let in water , I have had two small tares in mine, one by the bonnet area one over the roof,in spite of repairs i have struggled to keep it 100% watertight since in these zones . The rips were inflicted removing the cover after last years snow, prior to that it was bone dry, having said that it is a very small patch which seeps through, the comment about condensation is also accurate. The securing straps work well and I still think they are worth the money if you have no garage or car port
