Squeaky rear springs

Post by ronnie »

Hi , I took my moggy for a quick spin yesterday and there was a really annoying squeak from the rear springs . Do you think I should renew the bushes and pins or just lubricate existing bushes

If your minor has been fitted with poly bushes then it's most likely them squeaking - quick cure is a blast of WD40, but won't last long, better is dismantle and refit using silicon grease.

If no polybushes then check the rubber bushes for wear (especially damper link to chassis could be metal on metal) and try to locate origin of noise.

Also check security of U bolt fixings.

Car out on salty roads?? Oh dear.... Don't attempt to lube rubber bushes - but if poly - yes a squirt of silicon (or moly) grease is a good idea.

An old time recommendation to get rid of squeaking bushes was to douse the rubber bushes in brake fluid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes - I thought about replying with that, but reckoned it would produce howls of anguish... :o

It was just a quick blast round the block Roy so don't think the salt should do any harm . Looks like the original bushes so do you think I should try the brake fluid , it certainly lubricates the master cylinder
