You can adjust the windscreen demisters just by bending them to aim at the screen a bit better.
It's a very haphazard arrangement at the best of times, remarkable that it works at all really.
It might improve matters if you put some gaffer tape around the outlet under the dash such that what ever air comes out has to go to the screen and not just warm the glove box area :)

Here is a youtube link to stripping down the heater, you may find it useful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v75LjUrVaPE

I have been thinking along the same lines as Marky to try and boost the demist function of the heater, I have the circular heater and am considering making removable blanking plate to force the air onto the screen.

I sealed up the area between the dash vents and dash opening from underneath with some closed cell foam. It made a noticeable difference, especially to the heat of the dashboard top which was a lot cooler. Much better having the hot air going to the screen.

The screen vent may simply be clogged with fluff...probe it with a knitting needle - something like that!
