Engine Paint OOOPS!

hi

got the engine and gearbox out of car as part of the restoration and decided to repaint......

however just relised the paint i've painted my engine with isn't an high temp paint does this make much difference? i've got 5lr of the stuff :s
any advice much appreciated!

I think it will be fine unless you got it on the exhaust manifold which does need high temperature paint.
Mind you it will stink for a bit when the engine first gets hot.

haven't done manifold yet as probably going to do it in black or silver. was considering putting an high temp lacquer over the top but doubt this will achieve much.

I dont think you will have too much of a problem with the heat generated by the engine and definitely no issues with heat and the gearbox.
But the manifold gets stinking hot, anyone whos worked a little too closely to the exhaust after a long run will testify to that.
"ouch"!
I would have thought painting the manifold a waste of time though.

You've put it on so leave it on and keep your fingers crossed. The manifold will need VHT paint - make sure it is clean and rust free first!

My friend has always painted their mini engines with bog standard hammerite.

It will probably be fine
