Grammar & Punctuation RUBBISH!!!

Post by drivewasher »

Here I go again, probbably get me in trouble but I'm afraid you can take it or leave it!

Why the heck does it matter! I read the posts' that Highland Morris did and I read and UNDERSTOOD them perfectly. Maybe the person reading them who can't handle it .....well my mum used to say if you can't say owt nice then say nothing. For goodness sake get in the real world.
As long as what someone is trying to say is understood I'd much rather listen or read for hours something that's educational from ANY Minor enthusiast or any other subject I'm interested in. All of us should be thankfull of the passing down of the old skills and I would like to thanl everyone on every forum for the info I have aquired.

I just switch the Essex themed crap off when it's on the telly

Well what one person understands may not be understood by someone else so the best thing to do if you're not sure what someone means is to ask them to clarify it.

And less of the Essex insults please! We don't all resemble or speak like the characters you see on TV  :D

Yes I am aware of that. My dig was at the complainant who I believe is from Essex way. :D That speaks volumes!

Personally I have no problem with people who have real problems with punctuation and grammar as long as they do their best! The young man in question has, I believe, stated already that he is dyslexic. In my book all power to him for saying so and for getting on and posting to the best of his ability.
The folk that really drive me to despair are those who are either proud of their ignorance or are too lazy to be bothered checking and correcting to the best of their ability and then declaring "Who cares, it doesn't matter". If we allow that and really don't care then standards will continue to decline until we finish up communicating with monosyllabic grunts!
Haven't standards declined enough now that we find ourselves so low down the European scale of academic achievement. We're not even in the top 20 for our own English language, for God's sake, let alone maths and science. Have a little pride, man!
There were several typos in this, but I checked and corrected it because I DO care!

God knows where all this comes from, probably another post I've missed! :D ----and in defence of those who attempt to punctuate etc, it should be remembered the correct use of English is also an old skill handed down. If someone is dyslexic of course that is a different matter. Well said above!

Language is about communication ,it evolves after all who uses thee and thou now?

I relax my English on this site ,because I respect ,I hope ,the other contributors feelings and thoughts, whatever their English ,spelling etc..so do most people on here ,yes we slightly fall out every now and then .

This is the VERY BEST one car site on the net ,best people ,best mods, best info ,best technically gifted etc. Try buying another classic and see how good their site is. :D
Cheers Alex

Hi Les,
I was defending, "highland morris" in a post that was locked before I read it

Here: http://www.mmoc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53670

His posts (some have been deleted by the way) were being attacked because of the lack of grammar. I got myself in all sorts of bother defending someone else a few weeks ago.
I don't expect the forum to decline into communicating by grunts. My point is in the scale of things does it really matter. I never said "who cares" because obviously I do. Perhaps too much

I agree - I'm sure if we all try our best - that's good enough. My own fumble fingers often make mistakes - sometimes I pick them up - sometimes I don't.... C'est la vie...

Thanks for link dw, I'm now up to speed. The man has difficulties I respect that but in a lot of cases there is no excuse, of course we not sitting English exams here so some licence (is that second c correct or should it be an s :D ) is fine but now and then some posts are pretty grim. We all slip up, I'll be doing it again no doubt! No big deal to check post before submitting though. Hey lets move on up the scale together!! :D

When I attempt to do anything on my 'smart telephone' - it always ends up a real mess......and I suspect many of the youngsters do their posting on telephones.....

Let's just all do our best, eh!?
The trouble with "smart phones" is that you have to be pretty smart to use them! Damned sight smarter than I am, anyway. I'll stick to ye olde PC!

Well my son caught me bashing the flat screen monitor on our reception desk yesterday in an attempt to make the programme running work a bit quicker.
He said, " No Dad! it's the tower under the counter you need to bash"

I am a member on a few forums including a few Ford sites and I have never encountered any critical jibes about grammar or punctuation only the Minor site :o .I agree like Les and Steve its easy on a keyboard to attack someone but find this a form of bullying and is not called for by anybody

When you concider Albert Einstein, Leonardo de Vinci and many other great people had dyslexia,
deriding anyone having this condition should be ashamed!
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
