Vintage record players?
Does anyone know of a source of spares or a forum for vintage record players? Ive bought an old Dansette Diplomat record player and need to get a couple of parts for it, I think its about 1960 and is 'very groovy'. The motor is working ok but the rubber wheel that turns the turn table is hard with age and not doing its job any more and the rubber that sits on the turn table was completely knackered so Ive removed it and cleaned the turntable up, it was red rubber. Any help is appreciated

Re: Vintage record players?
There are a few blokes on youtube who use old record players and upload singles played on them. You could always ask.

Re: Vintage record players?
try some engine stop leak on the rubber wheel , it "softens and rejuvenates seals" it should work on a rubber wheel

They did didn't they, once warmed up they had a unique smell that I don't smell these days.lambrettalad wrote: I can still remember how the valves made a wonderful smell
Off topic, why is it, I'll walk in a shop and get a smell of my long deceased nans kitchen for a second and then it's gone. A smell I haven't smelt for years and years and only remembered during that second.

Apparently we have brain receptors that store these occasions I was reading and are triggered .The smell of valves is the dust burning off when they heat up I always thought. The smell I like best was off my old racing Lambretta Castrol R like a speedway bike smell

Re: Vintage record players?
A brief update on the record player, I bought a new needle off ebay which Ive still to fit. I got a new rubber wheel from a friend and its fitted and now the speeds are all playing properly. I think it needs a new speaker now as its very crackily, if thats a proper word!
i think its sat in the damp for some time, maybe a loft or garage and cardboard speakers dont like that much. If I ever get it playing properly I will put a clip on you tube!

Re: Vintage record players?
that sound more like electrical e.g.. a dry joint ,failing valve, the cardboard tends to make a less crisp sound

Re: Vintage record players?
What condition is the record you are using?
Scratches and dust don't help the sound quality

Old record players fetch a good price on Ebay and even early stack systems and music centres
