New seats for long journeys!?

Hello, this is my 3rd post, lol
Im just wondering whether i should get some new seats? because my project Skyler will be used in everyday use, and i wudnt mind sum nicer seats... are there any you guys would recommend? and how much they'd cost!?

Cheapest seat improvement are seats from an MG metro if you have a 2 door and you can either make your own subframes or buy them from a specialist.

I've seen Volvo front seats used (eg from a 480) and Volvo seats tend to be great for long journeys.

As for Metro seats - Newton Commercial can provide them recvovered to suit your existing interior.

Don't fall into the trap I did. A Rover Metro seat will not fit directly to a Newton Commercial subframe as the seat runners are too far apart.
On the plus side, Metro back seats can be persuaded to fit too and if your lucky you will find a set in leather which is much more appropriate than some of the moden fabrics

Hi,

By far the easiest solution I have found;-

Early 1990's Fiesta, Escort seats fit in with VERY little work and are comfortable too!

PLUS there is no need to make or buy sub-frames!

The only tools needed are hack-saw and drill!

I had a set of these in my convertible, er..... when it had a floor!

I will re-fit them when the work is done.

Out of interest Martin, how did you fit the seats? I'm familiar with the metro/subframe construction but don't know the ford seat mounting way. Is it just a case of drilling new holes???

In the past, I have had both Metro seats, with sub-frames, and Ford Seats.

The Ford seat has it's own sub-frame which is a similar shape to the Metro's.

I got my seats for free, so had nothing to lose by experimenting.
I was surprised how well they fitted!!

1)At the back, the Ford sub-frame needs narrowing to clear the Minors sill.
Cut down the frame and re-drill the mounting holes (5 minute job!).

2)At the front, the frame needs washers or spacers to take up the slight difference in height on the Minor floor (play around to get a good fit).

3)Mark and drill the new holes in the floor.

4)Bolt down the new seats and enjoy!

They really are that simple to fit.

I have fitted Saab seats to my personal Minor. Believe me they are extreamly comfortable,infact, recognised in the car industry as the most ergonomic.
Electric versions can also be fitted very simply giving memory seat position.
A good pair of leather front seats will cost between £50-100. They are particulary usefull in two dr saloons and travellers as they fold and have a thin backrest offering better legroom than the Metro varients.
I also fitted Austin Allegro vanded plas seats, these are big but fantastic for comfort, they also benefit from having a pull down dirinks tray, perfect .
Saab bases are available commercially, but I'm unable to mention who.

I've got a pair of Vanden Plas seats to go in the resto mobile when it's done. Sadly, it being a pickup, the fold down drinks trays on the back of the seats are a bit uaeless, but they're jolly pretty.
