RH Insurance
Shame, but there are others who are more competitive and have more to offer at the moment out there.
Currently I'm a very happy and better off customer with RH Specialist insurances. I have changed insurers three times, but this is the best yet.
I have absolutely no other connection with the company, but if you want someone to compare quotes for a 'classic' with, they seem to currently offer more for less cash. My 3 moggies average £71 each, fully comprehensive, unlimited mileage, roadside breakdown, and get you home. Another feature is one you may never need, but if the car is written off for whatever reason, they give it back to you after settling the claim. NB; Car/van must not be your main workhorse vehicle, it must be a classic. I suppose if you have more than one Minor, then none of them is your main car!
I have only included some of the key details to help people with Minors and other classics see what is out there, given the discussion subject matter.

So now I have to insure the new addition!
Having read the above from Busguy, I decided that I would try R H Specialist Insurance. I had never heard of them and couldn't find an advertisement for them either in Minor Matters or Practical Classics, so contacting them was by 'phone courtesy of Google. After all the usual warnings about .........don't really remember as my brain shut off........I was treated to a very humorous and light-hearted exchange with a young Essex man called Sam. We had a good laugh, which makes a hell of a change compared to almost anything insurance related, and at the end of it he quoted me a few pence over £85.00p.
I then tried F.J. who, after a much more serious verbal exchange quoted me a few pence over £128.00p, and then Lancaster who quoted me almost £104.00p without Agreed Value, or £119.00p with!
The RHS and FJ made no mention of agreed value.
Can't help but think that, considering FJ are sort of "club related", they don't offer much of a deal! End of Term report would read " Must try much, MUCH harder"
Think I'll look into RHS a bit more, but I think they're probably getting my custom this year at least! Sadly they don't seem to insure the young'uns.

I'm not sure the two comments are off topic, but I bow to your better judgement on this. Mine was a measured reponse to concerns being expressed.
I'm sure RH would be pleased to know they now have a header all of their own in the discussion forum.

I changed to RH from after being 10 years with FJ this year as a result of receiving a high renewal quote and found that RH was way cheaper and better cover with at least four others being less than half the price of my renewal quote from FJ albeit slightly less cover which I didn't really need any way .

Ian (coal...) I have been with RH for many many years - top service and a good deal. They let me 'add on' my second car (TR7) every year for just the cost of the few months I decide to tax it and run it on the road. Usually works out at ~ £9 per month - on top of my Traveller insurance at ~ £85 for the year. I just take the risk of something happening to it when it is off the road - 'safely' locked up in my (silver fox proofed) garage And yes I agree - very 'friendly staff on the phones.

I was with FJ for many years but last year changed to Adrian Flux. Never heard of RH - they sound very good, I'll check them out.

Linking in to another recent thread, "Are we allowed to name and PRAISE", it looks like we are judging by the fact that a moderator has actually initiated this thread from replies to another. Long may it continue!! And I will only believe that things are truly fair and just and in the interests of MMOC members when we can name and shame too!

Not quite Lou, but the reason is the same
The thread was relating to a specific question in relation to the FJ young drivers scheme then several recommendations were made about RH, who do not insure young drivers of classic cars, so I felt it best if these were moved to a thread of their own.
If anyone needs specific information as to why a mod has taken a particular course of action please contact us via pm. Please bear in mind though that we do have lives outside of the messageboard, which sometimes have to take priority over messageboard chit chat, so you may not receive an immediate response. They have a difficult job to do, and in this case, it is now better to let it go. I certainly don't want it carry on and blow out of all proportion, as can so easily happen.

As far as I know RH won't insure anyone under 25 (it was a few years ago I asked)

I don't know where you get the time from, and I don't know where you get the patience from! Between you you must have to read and analyse every posting on this site by a whole spectrum of, shall we say, "eccentrics".
It's being a tad eccentric that makes us love these wee cars, and I feel that it is a term that can be applied to almost anyone who goes beyond the stage of feeling a pang of nostalgia when they see a car of their youth and actually decides to keep and run one. We are not of the norm, otherwise we would, sheeplike, be driving Golfs, Mondeos, Insignias or whatever and living in our average little houses with our 2.4 kids and spending our evenings watching the "soaps". Instead we spend time freezing our bits off in garages too small to swing a cat round, or possibly in big draughty barns with nothing but our wee cars ( and the occasional badger!!) for company.
Persaonally I revel a bit in being a tad "different", but I realise that, by our nature of being different and holding a wide range of viewpoints on probably everything, we make your job more difficult.
You try merely to uphold the rules of The Club, but sometimes it might be nice if you took a suggestion or two on board and pressed for a change here and there. I think that members SHOULD be able to "name and shame" in the same way as they can praise. To me, that rule which prevents us from doing so is as stupid and unjust as the eBay ruling which prevents a seller leaving negative feedback on a buyer. The car I have just bought is a case in point as the original high bidder ( not me.......I didn't bid)has not even bothered to get in touch with the vendor although the auction ended almost 3 weeks ago. Read his feedback and it is littered with positive ratings which warn people to avoid him at all costs, yet he has 100% positive feedback!! It's the only way to make their feelings public!Anyway, greenies, I wish you all the best for the festives ( Bah Humbug) and, though it may at times seem as if we don't, I think that we really do appreciate all your time and effort
Have a really good time eating and drinking plenty with your friends and family and, while you are thus occupied, the rest of us can catch you unawares and write all sorts of non-permissable posts and threads!!!
