Engine dies under braking

Post by Sips »

Hi All,

Advice please! Under braking my engine almost cuts out normally worse when the engine is cold. The car has an electronic fuel pump. Runs fine other than this.

I am wondering if it is some kind of fuel starvation due to it being worse the harder I brake. The other thought I have is when I switch the ignition off it keeps spluttering for a few seconds then dies. This I am sure is the timing but I was wondering if it was related? Do I need to advance or retard if it is over running?

Thanks as always!

Paul

There's another similar thread running, so have a look at the answers there - but in winter you probably need to lift the idle speed slightly - and yes - you may help the running on by advancing the ignition slightly - but if you hear pinking - take it back again , so it's 'not quite' pinking.

Is the car standard, or do you have a servo? If the latter, then you may have an air leak somewhere.

Standard 1098 no servo fitted.

Not gotten round to upping the idle speed yet, will try tomorrow.

If you slip in to neutral - and then brake (so no foot on clutch) does it still cut out?
