front brakes!

Hi All

I have just fitted some wheel cylinders but on going to adjust the brakes up i have noticed that i cant lock the drums even with the adjusters on their maxiumn, iam thinking the adjusters must be worn is this possible,any other thoughts welcome!!

Are the drums and/or shoes badly worn? If so, then the adjusters can't cope, and you need to renew whichever parts are worn. Why did you change the cylinders - if they were seized, then it is quite possible that the pistons were stiking out sufficiently to allow the wheels to lock with the worn parts.

Hi i replaced the cylinders as they were leaking, the drums and shoes are fine, its a bit of a puzzle!!

have you tried turning the adjusters with the drum off to see if the shoes actually are moving in and out,maybe the shoes are fitted wrong and not coming into contact with the snail cams

yep the shoes all move ok, i have just been out and had another look, the adjuster cam teeth look worn and quite flat and also the bit the adjuster sits in has 2 grooves worn in it (adjuster mask on ESM website) i wouldn't normally worry until spring but wanted to use it sunday to do the Chestnut tree teddy bear run! So i think it must a combination of wear in both parts.

hooray think i have sorted it now, wasn't being determined enough to get the adjuster over its last click, all seems ok now,

That's usually the problem - the first few clicks are used regularly - the others not so much...... In extremis - a thin shim can be fitted under the tail of each shoe - to help balance out wear on the drum face.

On Modern rubbish that breaks as soon as it
Is looked at so I am too gentle with Our Moggy!
I think another problem I have is one of the
Wheel cylinders is fractionally shorter as
One adjuster I couldn't get to lock however
Hard I tried! So I swooped them round to eliminate
The adjuster, I made a thin spacer to go
Underneath the adjuster mask and that did
The trick! Thanks again
