Garage space

I am planning tommorrow to look at moving things in my garage in order to put my Minor there once it has been finished, and so was just wondering if anybody can give me a idea of how big a space I need to create to easily accommodate a Morris Minor saloon? I was thinking length wise about 14' and about 8' for the width.

Length 148 in (3,759 mm) 12ft
Width 60 in (1,524 mm) 5ft

With an allowance for opening the drivers door 14' and about 8' sounds spot on.

If you have to purchase a new garage/building/wksp go for the largest you can fit on the site.
Small is not always beautiful.
Mine is 5m x 6m and it is still not big enough and it has a 2m x 5m annex attached.

I will be going for one that fits the space rather than the contents but my main concern is having something secure to put the stuff in a 10' shipping container would be ideal but they do not come cheap.

20ft ones seem to be cheaper, not sure about transport costs though.

An Angle grinder and a stick welder should be enough to trim it to suit the site.

What is site access like? rollers and a Tirfor winch are probably enough to move one about.

Access is not too bad too the garage and so getting something there is no problem it would just mean replacing the garden fence which could do with being done at some point anyway. I can not see transporting being a problem if I can get a good enough deal on one the problem would be removing it off the transport and then getting it into place once it at the back of the garden.

well aired garage is better ,tin cans get really cold and damp,power point shelving etc ,compton do good and good valve garages .

Can you clear something up for me? Are you buying a garage to keep your Minor in, or buying a shed to keep the stuff that you take from your garage so as to allow room for your Minor? Some of the replies you are getting appear to me to assume you want the new acquisition to keep your car in, whereas I thought it was somewhere to keep the excess stuff from a garage you already have.

I am putting my Minor in the Garage which I already have, the shed is for all the other items that I am having to take out of the garage in order to get the car in.

I have been clearing out as I go along in order to reduce what I need to rehome but like all things you can not dispose of everything for you never know when you may need it.

If you buy a container from a company that regularly sells containers, they will likely have a delivery lorry with a crane....

Whooooooo well put. and so say all of us blooming sure we don't throw out anything not even after the 7 year rule perhaps after the 77 years rule and even then.
I have often wondered where all the minors that are alive today would be if their owners had chucked them on the scrapheap like almost everybody did in years past , we would be minorless in this modern world so thanks must go to their previous owners who did not chuck things into the scrapheap but held onto them for us living in the future ,
so, hold on to that bit of junk you thought was useless find a space because you never know the day.

Thank you for stating this I had not thought of that. I would prefer a shipping container over a shed if I could get hold of a reasonably priced one; for at least a shipping container is more versatile and would be able to house more things that WILL be useful in the future.

I forgot about the 2m x 3m shed full of Minor spares in addition to the above.
Over the years I have learnt never to throw anything away because you will invariably need it the next week!!!
ISO Containers come in all types and sizes not just the standard ISO container we see on the back of lorries. They can be wksps/offices and even accommodation. So look around you may find something more useful than just a straight ISO container.
As regards delivery; a lorry fitted with a Hiab crane will put it just where you want it. What ever you get make sure that it is well supported and off the ground. Looking on the web there are plenty of S/H ISO containers of various sizes (10ft, 20ft & 40ft) and applications with prices comparable to a shed of similar size.
