Hi, just joined the club and bought a 1957 2 door 540XUX. Does anyone know this car? It has a Morris owners club badge on the grill. It is grey but how can I find out what grey it is?

Your car appears to have had its original registration number transferred off it and an age related, previously unissued registration number allocated to it.
The previous owner or someone on the site may recognise it, but the new reg id doesn't help in tracing the history.

I thought they used Q for age related plates such as QX and anyway UX comes back as being for Shropshire. Unless I am not seeing things clearly.

Agreed looks like clarendon gray to me, same as my traveller. Happy motoring

DVLA have been using unissued plates from all over the country for ages on age related registration transfer replacements. I recently had a YUY reallocated number on a cherished transfer.
Q plates are for rebuilds, and various other categories where the age, build date or make cannot be proven. Some imports may come under this category.
There is no such thing as a Shropshire number now. All the older re-issue numbers are DVLA controlled and the historic link with the old motor tax office is no more, as are most of the old offices.

Hi Simon
If you go onto the DVLA website you can download a form to trace the history of your car. You have to send them £5 and then they will send you copies of all the logbooks held on record for your car. I've just done this for the convertible and the results were very interesting.
You can also purchase a heritage certificate from the BHMT which will let you know all the build records for your car. These are quite expensive but are another way of tracing all of the cars history.

I have seen the car on your drive and it looks very nice. I think it is Clarendon grey but it could also be Yukon grey. The heritage certificate will tell you what colour it was when it left the factory.

I have now found out after checking the MOT history site of the DVLA that its previous reg was 349 RRF which is now on a rolls royce. It's history of MOTs tell me that it has come from Blackburn Lancashire.
