Greetings all,
My second gear is getting "crunchy." Occasionally accidentally grind it while shifting. It is no problem when I'm accelerating, but when I'm decelerating, like cornering, I have to be very careful and slow getting it into second to avoid grinding the gears. I occasionally can manage to touch the gas a bit to speed up the engine a bit which helps, but is difficult to do.
Any insights on what the cause is? I expect I'm looking at a gearbox rebuild in the not so distant future...
Thanks!

Weak synchro on 2nd gear. Keep practicing double de clutching, you will soon get the hang of it

As above - double de-clutch! Or - just DON'T change down into second gear on the move, unless you absolutely need to !! The box will likely need a new second gear and possibly a selector hub too - and certainly syncro rings -as well as new bearings throughout and a new layshaft. Start looking for a good spare secondhand gearbox...... meantime take good care of the one you have - perhaps treat it to an oil change - with 20W50 engine oil......
