Heated Front Winscreen

Post by MattJR »

I recently had a heated windscreen and rear heated windscreen fitted. The rear windscreen is brilliant, definitely worth the money. The heated front windscreen is a bit useless. I wish I'd spent the money on a more powerful heater for the car itself.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Do you have an alternator to power the screen properly? Most report 'great success' with these screens. The later Mini heaters are better (more powerful fan) - and used with an 88 degree thermostat should give decent results.

Heated front screens are just about the best winter driving accessory ever. If your one isn't working, then either it's faulty, or you've wired it incorrectly. You should expect both mist and ice to clear in a matter of seconds. The screens are designed to be used for a shoprt burst, not continuously.

My heated front and rear screens are brilliant so it sounds like yours isn't wired properly or just not enough currently available from your charging system

I read in a thread somewhere to alternate the back and front heated windscreen on a rocker switch so you either have one or the other on at any one time. If you have both on at the same time would they both work as well as they should/ Even with an alternator. I'm pointing this out because I'm thinking of having these windscreens too

Thanks I'll check whether there's anything wrong with the wiring. I do have an alternator, so it should work ok.

I should have said I've wired mine through a two way, centre off switch so I only have either the front or rear screens on -never both at the same time they work really well! :D

If the wiring is correct and an alternator fitted, then you can easily run both screens at the same time. However, as noted earlier, the front one should be limited to short periods.
